Ah, but then I read this over at The Cruciform Life:
"Even through the rain, snow, and ice, we can still blossom in God's Word."Okay. And that, by the way, is from the mind and heart of a nine year old child!
Anyway, it's Saturday, and Laurie has gone off to a workshop for small-group worship leaders, and I feel like rambling through the blogosphere.
Did you see this: Stuff Christians Like. Wickedly, wickedly funny. My favorites?
- #78: Using the Christian "F" Word (try to guess what it is).
- #71: Calling things postmodern
- #46: Super happy shiny Christian radio
Letters from Kamp Krusty. "Awesomely" funny blog. I'm talkin' "awesomely"! And isn't it great that "awesomely" isn't red-lined by the Blogger spell-checker/word-approver thingie? Brant, I think maybe you singlehandedly got "awesomely" into the Blogger spell-checker list of approved words!
Brant likes to satirize the leadership industry. I mean, he really doesn't just satirize it, he runs it through with his giant satirical scimitar (I think a scimitar is a long curved sword . . . but it could be a big middle-eastern silver tea pot with lots of mysterious little lids). Anyway, he runs it through, hacks it to pieces. While laughing. Very funny. If you like that sort of thing.
There's always a lot of pious talk about leadership in the Christian blogosphere (ah, there's the spell-checker red-liner, pooh-poohing the word "blogosphere"). Anyway, I think most of this leadership talk is a real crock of gunk, if you know what I mean. I went to a conference on leadership once. Why? I don't know. I was young and naive (last year). And anyway, the speaker talked a lot about team-building. And the great big point he wanted to make was, "Everybody is a leader." And if you're not pursuing leadership, you should be. What are you waiting for? God is calling you to leadership, etc. etc. A bunch of us went to lunch, and I said, "If everybody is a leader, then who are the followers?" I'm telling you, talk about a wet-blanket remark!
Okay, enough of that. It's been a fine little ramble, but I've got to go. I just looked out the window, and guess what! It's snowing again! I'm gonna go hide. See you when the thaw sets in!

Thanks for quoting my 9-year-old! I'm glad her words warmed your heart as you wait to thaw. Peace, Jimmy D. at The Cruciform Life.
That is the heart of the problem, isn't it? Nobody wants to be a follower...but that's exactly what Jesus wants his disciples to be.
