On Telling the Story

Jill Carattini said:
Into a world of people who have never heard the good news, and people who have heard it often, Christ comes--proclaiming the kingdom of God among us, leaving us with symbols of his presence, pointing us to signs of God’s reign that wait conspicuously and inconspicuously for eyes that will see. Regardless of how often we have heard it, we do well to speak and hear of this kingdom as if it were for the first time. In the words of the old hymn:

I love to tell the story,
for some have never heard;
the message of salvation
from God’s own holy Word.

I love to tell the story,
for those who know it best
Seem hungering and thirsting
to hear it like the rest.

And when, in scenes of glory,
I sing the new, new song;
’Twill be the old, old story
that I have loved so long.

The story that was told long before us shall continue to be told long after us.
Amen!
